1986年諾貝爾和平獎得獎者 Elie Wiesel 得獎發言:「當世上何時何地有人類受苦受辱，一定要選邊站。保持中立只會助長壓迫者，而不是受害者。 」Elie 本身就是納粹猶太大屠殺的倖存者，今天我們讀他的【Night】。

本書取材自 Elie 的自身經歷，記載他和父親1944年至1945年間，二次大戰接近尾聲、猶太人大屠殺的極端時期，被送往納粹德國奧斯威辛等集中營的種種際遇。集中營的經歷令他認為神已死並對人性厭惡。
